I’m reading a book right now of St. Therese of Lisieux’s writings titled, The Story of a Soul. In one of the sections she talks about how much her sisters and family cared for her when she was sick and how much that meant to her and how she felt she would never be able to pay them back during her time on earth. She goes on to say, “Fortunately I will have heaven to pay you back. My Bridegroom is very rich, and I will dig into His treasures of love in order to give you back a hundred times as much.” I read this and thought, “wow how entitled”. How entitled she sounds to her bridegroom’s riches- but that’s exactly it. We ARE entitled to them. Jesus WANTS to overflow us withHis riches. He DIED so that we SHOULD inherit these riches just as if we were marrying into a wealthy family, except way, way cooler. This realization was a game changer for me. It got me thinking, how would it change my life if I acted more entitled to my Bridegroom’s riches? If I acted as though Jesus’s love was beyond anything my heart and mind could comprehend- so great, and so available for my taking. No seriously, take a second... what would that look like... what about your life and actions specifically would be different?
I’d like to ask you a question today... What has been the most impactful realization in your faith life? Wherever you are on your faith journey, what has been the biggest game changer? For a fledgling Christian listening, maybe it’s simply been just opening your mind to the possibility that there’s some truth to this whole Christianity thing, maybe for someone renewing their faith it has been adding in daily morning prayer or a daily rosary, maybe it’s been a bible verse or a speaker who made a point that really hit home for you... take a minute to think about some of these game changing steps of your journey... I’d like to leave you with a challenge today... I challenge you to figure out what those radical moments, realizations, or changes have been. I challenge you to remember that feeling of being on fire for your faith after said radical experience. And I challenge you to bottle that feeling up, to relight that fire, so big you can’t contain it within you. Now let’s go, people of God, let’s dig in to our Bridegroom’s riches, and let’s set the world ablaze.
